I don't want to jinx us, but has anyone noticed the slow start to the North Atlantic hurricane season?

We are now better than seven weeks into the season and, as far as I've been able to determine, we've only had one relatively short lived Tropical Depression (TD 1):

Using the 1944-2005 average (which doesn't include some recent highly active seasons), we could normally expect one named storm by now:

Hopefully this trend will continue!!

mea culpa

Okay, I go away on vacation for a week or so and they run through the first three letters of the alphabet !!

Sorry about the jinx. As penance, I will state publicly that I have not yet dropped anything of value overboard this season.;)
