I have a couple of mid-sized sailboats to renovate and want to plan wiring and plumbing before I start. Also, when I sell one of these boats, I want to turn a set of diagrams over to the new owner.

Any recommendations for free or reasonably-priced software (Windows 7 operating system)?

The software doesn't have to provide professional-grade diagrams, but I don't want too rustic, either.

Any drawing program should work just fine. I happen to use Microsoft Visio for that kind of stuff, but I suspect its more money than you want to spend.

Someone had made a great wiring diagram on here and I asked him what program he used.

Powerpoint was the answer. You can download Libre Office, Open Office or use Google's powerpoint clone online, all for free.

I prefer the Libre Office for this type of thing, hence the link.

I second the PowerPoint suggestion
I have seen and have done some pretty good diagrams with PowerPoint. You can draw components, group them, then use them in your diagrams. The OpenOffice version works well

Open Office Presentation - who'd-a-thunk it? I'll give it a shot and let you know. I'm also trying open source DIA, but it's missing a few nice-to-have features.

Keep the ideas coming, and I'll post my findings when I've made a choice
