Hi folks,
I'm in Southern California and I am interested in beginning what I hope will be a new love. Sailing has always intrigued me and I am in a position to finally get a taste of it.
I have a couple friends who sail (38' Pearson?). I've only been on diesels and powerboats, so this is all new to me. I have not yet had a chance to go out with friends to really learn what I am getting into. Regardless, I still find it attractive and I look forward to starting off.
I plan on purchasing a 70's Lancer, Hunter, or Ericson. 29'-35' depending on price and condition after the survey. I plan on staying with in the California Bight, with overnights for scuba diving in Catalina and the Channel Islands.
Any information that you fine folks may offer would be terrific. My price range is super-low to ensure that I truly get the use of the boat before I upgrade. I'm certainly going to spend some time with friends on the water to learn and I am considering ASA courses.
Thanks in advance for any advice!!!
