I have a 1980 Westerbeke 40 with the old CAV fuel filter style. I am considering switching to a spin on fuel filter adaptor. The maker of the adaptor claims that it alleviates the need to bleed the fuel system when changing the filter. Does anyone have experience with these adaptors and do they actually alleviate the need to bleed the system?

Can anyone recommend a brand of adaptor that they prefer?
Thanks!

I have the system you are referring to. Works great. Unspin the filter, take new filter, fill it to the absolute top with diesel, screw on, have absorbent pad underneath to catch spillage and you have a filter completely full with no or next to no air in it. I use a Fleetguard FS1235 filter with the bleed nipple at bottom with it. Highly recommended.

Diesel CAV Filterhead Fuel Filter Adapter.
