Boat IS in the water... winter stored in-water. I will run the engine this week... recommission... fill the water tanks and do some Spring cleaning. I may put the genny on... boats for sale so it's only for buyer to have a look. I have to move to another slip...next week. No plans for cruising at all at this point.

I have to move to another slip in the marina.
Should I "hoist" the genny (it's stowed)??? Takes two people but it's not a difficult job.... then it could be properly sailed.

For me, this morning, I'm shovelling.

4-6 inches of snow, last night...

Ou good grief, we are going to taking our boat OUT of the water for the season.

We will be removing the mast for the first time for us in order to do some work on the mast base plate. The existing plate is 1/2” Starboard?, cracked, and it rusts around the perimeter. No clue what is underneath. Also the through hull for wires is funky.

I will have a SS mast step (1/4”?) plate welded in that covers the existing wire hole. A new through hull will he installed. The starboard will he replaced with G-10, 1/4”, or maybe 2 each 1/4” plates.

Similar for the windlass, but there keep the existing starboard.

I am considering having them weld on some angles plates with holes so I have places to attach turning blocks at the mast base.

I was running a grinder. In a white tyvek suit and mask. Not something I’d bother to take a photo of. Oh that was after dropping $1200 for new foam for the aft cabin. Also painful but not photogenic. Both Reality of Sailing experiences.

Google says I'm 64 driving hrs away from my boat right now. My calendar says I've got two months to go... hard to get too excited yet.

Mike, on the one hand it would be neat to see southern Canada.

On the other hand, for long trips I often employ this neat new technology called “airliner”. For shipping stuff there’s a company called UPS.

Mike,
Clearly you need a second boat.

Medicine Hat, huh?

If you're up for a day trip, the Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump is a world heritage site 2 or 3 hours west of you. It's not as cool as sailing stuff, but we found it to be a very worthwhile stop.

We're just going to pretend that this is a pic of me mapping out a sailing expedition & not tell Mark that we stopped there on a motorcycle trip in 2016.

Yeah, I've heard of those flying things, but I don't see any wings flapping, so how can they stay in the air? ;)

Truth is, my simple life is rather complicated at times o_O. I use the car to transport us, and all of life's essentials. Would be prohibitively expensive to ship it all around. Besides, I really don't mind the journey. We drive across much of this vast country twice a year. Been doing it for many years now -- I can't even count the number of times.

All part of the fun of being (land) homeless.

Oh, I've thought about it. But where???

Oh yes, been there, done that. In days past, I lived in Calgary (university days). We have family in Alberta, so come here often. Lots of great things to visit if you're passing through. Just not a lot of water.

We did our biggest motorcycle trip in 2015/2016. Took seven months to drive across much of Canada, then down the west coast to California, across the deserts to Texas, and then meandered back up north through a whole bunch of mid-states. Camped most of the way. It was glorious.

One great thing about the Covid years was that it allowed us to get the bikes back on the road. We did some smaller trips, like Ontario to BC, then a whole bunch of Alberta-BC excursions. Fun times...

Finally cutting in the new cabin sole (Brazilian Koa) Bit of a delay working on the technology to bend the boards as they curve into the hull shape in the corners.
Created a jig out of 4x6's in a channel with a bridge across the top and wedges to create the shape. Bastardized an old MrCoffee as a steam/hot water generator ;)

Looked like this last month, so making way ;) Took a shortcut and coated the bilge in Semco liquid membrane. Rated for 15yrs as a pool liner so I should be good...

OMG. That’s one of the places I use for “you never heard of this place” like Arno and Kayangel and Yasuni. People in Calgary have never heard of it.

This is a standard 5" T&G unfinished flooring from Lumber Liquidators (around $7/sf)
I was originally thinking to rip it to 1.5" but the 5" fit my dimensions perfectly and the T&G was so nice.
I looked at a few species, but the Koa is so close to teak but prettier and stronger. Dimensional lumber in teak, Ipe, Koa was not to be had and the pricing/shipping was crazy,, like it was gold. Still working on bending this stuff ;/

Mark

Hopefully he has more flooring skill than me.

I made two templates for the sole, then the third time I used the template to make the final floor. It still wasn't very good.
