Hello out there,

I am moving to St. Thomas for the winter on Oct. 11. I will be working on a boat out of the East end and I would also like to live on a boat too.

Does anyone have suggestions on where I should look/call about finding a place to live?

If you are comfortable with a heavy swell and frequent wakes you can anchor in Red Hook itself - it would certainly not be my first choice, though. I think you might be able to find someone to rent you a private mooring closer in but it would still be an uncomfortable place to settle down in. I met a couple of younger guys (working in the hospitality industry) who found cheap housing last year, both in Red Hook and over on St. John. Assuing the tourism industry is still depressed you should have no problems finding a place to stay ashore.

Zanshin's remarks are dead on. There are many live aboard's in the harbor and Vessup Beach area so it is clearly being done. To find inexpensive housing I would suggest you also look at www dot VImovingcenter dot com. Once on island you might do well to meet as many people as possible quickly to see if you could get a roommate to share expenses. Oct 11 is still the hurricance season here. There are some bulletin boards around the Redhook area that will have rental notices on them as well.
