What is the proper procedure to step the mast? I understand the crane, boat yard etc.
but I don''t see where to disconnect at the deck.

The mast sets on the fitting bolted to the deck. Once the shrouds and stays are disconnected ( and the spar is supported by the crane)the spar should lift right off.
Do''nt forget to diconnect your wiring harness ,x-ducers and 12v. and feed them up the compression post. Also pay special attention to roller furling x-trusions they can kink if not properly supported.
Check w/ me if you have questions. W''eve done quite a few of these.
Good luck!
thanx h2onut.
i''ll keep you in mind.

Thanks, just bought a 30 and debating whether to have sailing friends help or motor it 20 miles and pay $500.
How would you and your friends do this? Pulling the mast on a 30 footer is not a trivial task and requires some sort of crane or gin pole to do this.

And welcome to Sailnet.
20 miles and half a boat buck that way no one gets hurt and you still have friends

The mast on a C30 standard rig is about 40 feet. Trying to get that up - with all the rigging attached and swinging around - without a crane would be very difficult. Not worth the risk.
Mast stepping on a trailer sailer or mast lowering on a larger keel yacht for bridges/powerlines is just all about appropriate systems. Many larger keel yachts had to lower their masts to access the ocean due to the road/rail bridges in Fremantle Western Australia (you know the place the Americas Cup went when Australia finally pinched it!).
There even large keel yachts had adjusted their rigging to have mast level side stay attachment points by using short solid braced sections at the bottom of their side stays.
This keeps the mast centralised and then they used a variety of twin spinnaker poles or similar in AFrame format with a bow mounted block system back to a deck winch or anchor winch to lower the mast underway.
My own 28 foot trailable yacht has a brilliant built in system that remains insutu at all times that is apparently fairly common on yachts built in Poland like mine. Unbelievably easy to use and even my slight daughter could single handedly raise my 30 foot mast.

At our marina in Tennessee we have done this by placing the boat in a slip between two similar size boats. Their halyards are attached to the boat's mast just above it's balance point. The mast is raised, rotated to vertical, positioned, and lowered in place. It's a group effort. The marina has no equipment that can do the job.
