I purchased my first real 'cruising' boat a little over a year ago, a Tartan 28. My previous, a J/24 was used for Thursday night racing and daysailing. The great thing about the J/24, is that it is so competitive, that everything about the boat from peformance to maintenance and repair is well known and easy to find-- just read the 'book'. Well not so for the Tartan, and I suspect any other cruising boat other than a few one-designs. The learning curve is slow for me- I just recently figured out how to fasten the partition between the quarter berth and the engine compartment without it floppy over.

I was having starting issues with my Yanmar diesel and was considering replacing the starter. Prices seemed to range from $70 to over $300, what gives? Then I ran across the thread here about the problem, and it looks like it is the wiring, and not the starter itself. So SailNet looks like my best bet to improve my learning curve. Hope you all can help.

Thanks!
