Wouldn't be a delight if they refurbished all of the Museum ships, bringing them up to par for a round the world Race. Then add in the Replica ships and the Tall School ships that belongs to various governments...
We could have about eighty or so ships for the Race... Start them at a common starting point like Panama or Suez canal. Going through both canals, which will shorten the race and so forth. The canals would be the only place where they can use their engines under strict guidance.

Now how do you go about challenging all of those countries and private museums to take part in such a Race.

It would be the Dream Race of the first part of this century...

Well this is something we can DREAM about.

It really wouldn't be a RACE unless they had to round the horns.

Which rating system are you going to handicap them under?

The rating system would be length of water line, seeing that practically all of them are all deep draught vessels.
the canals would be the safer route unless it is Hurricane season... Then no round the world route could be safe.

It would probably be easier to do the route in legs which begin and end at canal terminusses. Termini? Then they can use their nuclear magnetohydrodynamic propulsion to pass from one lock to the next, for all I care.

Since it sounds like we're going traditional... other than the whole canal thing... how do we handle crew? Shall we pack them into hammocks like sardines like in the good old days? Two, three hundred men per vessel? You could handicap according to crew size. And uh... weight of broadside. Or just use the old Admiralty rating system to divide the race up into classes. And authorize vessels in good standing to take, burn, or sink any violators of the Articles of the Race. Maybe give a bonus, in the form of time, to ships that bring their competitors home as prizes.

Okay where do I sign up for this race that's what I want to know.

Rate of Broadside..... Hmmmmmm! Only if they have an actual broadside and taking out a few pirates will add to their point system.

GO IRON SIDES!!!
