I use zincs to protect the aluminum saildrive. The 2 that mount on the casing would sometimes not last to haul-out time...they are not very large. Several years ago I started hanging a larger zinc over the transom while at my home dock. I have had no issues since, the transom zinc does disappear, indicating that it is working. The other zincs are not used up as quickly.

Sllnging a zinc over the transom , for best results,,should be wired(bonded to system ) ground including shaft brush is it's isolated

Of course you are right. The zinc is bolted to a stainless steel wire. The wire hangs on a stainless eye bolt on the transom. Inside the boat, a stainless wire connects the eye bolt to the motor block. The motor block is bolted to the saildrive. I periodically check the circuit with a test light.
