I have an '86 Newport that has a wheel and a tiller mount.

Anyone know if its ok to use a tiller pilot with a wheel?

I was thinking of making a bracket (i am a machinist so it will be well made) to plug into the tiller mount and mounting the pilot to that. My only concern is that it may over (or under) power the wheel.

Any thoughts?

The problem is how much resistance does the wheel add to the tiller??? If it is a reasonable amount, like a cable steering system, then you can probably use a tiller pilot on a tiller connected to the tiller mount. If the system is fairly high resistance, like a worm gear or hydraulic system, it might not work as well.
