There have been a number of threads related to ethanol gas left in carburetors. I thought my experiences may benefit someone? Sometime back, we downsized our fishing boat, a 1958 Glaspar Avalon with a 35 HP Evinrude 2 stroke motor, & gave it to my daughter & her husband.
I suggested he drain the carb if it wasn't going to be used within a week or so.
He didn't do that. Commenting that the motor was beginning to "run poorly" he took it to a shop who cleaned, or attempted to clean the carb. The result was that it trolled fine but stumbled & died when given full throttle. The shop tried.
I just ordered a new $400 carb which I will install for him. It just takes a minute or two to drain. I also have used this additive and except for one instance when I forgot to drain, have not had any fuel related problems since ethanol gas was introduced:
