I have a Minnkota Model 65T Trolling Motor 36 lb. thrust, 36" shaft which can easily power my Hunter Waterballast 19 out into the lake and around.

I want a more powerful engine but not a gas burner(tired of continual maintenance on those).

I have narrowed it to 2 choices:

Torqeedo 801L 68 lb. thrust, 28" shaft - $1300 plus

or, Endura Model 55 Trolling Motor 55 lb. thrust, 42" shaft - $250

Any suggestions? Thank you.

If the money is not an impediment, Torqueedo, hands down. It is very well built, and the thrust is accurately portrayed. We jsut bought a 801 for our dingy, and love it.

BTW, if you do decide on the TQ, let me know. We bought the 801L, and wish we had the 801S. Swap?

The one point I'd make is that if you need your engine in an emergency, re-powering it is difficult when it is an electric motor, and requires far more weight than does a gasoline-powered outboard. However, since you're only daysailing on a lake, the Torqueedo would be a good solution. :)
