The cost of food and housing in the BVI is roughly equivalent to living in the U.K. (outside of London, let us say Birmingham or Manchester). Food prices are quite high and housing is as well, except that the quality of said housing might be rather low if you are looking for something on the cheaper side. It might be possible for your charter company to allow you use of bunk space on unused boats, but $1300 a month will make it difficult to save a lot. I don't know about health insurance prices, either.
