My signet depthfinder gave me an error that relates to a bad connection in it's transducer cable. I tried to splice it where it was pinched. It being a shielded cable didn't correct the problem. The new cables with transducer are $175 U.S. and up (yikes). Anyone have any advise how to fix the cable or have a used one for sale for a signet 172 model depthfinder. Also can these transducers be removed in water without having to replace the outer hull fitting?

I have some information on transducer cable which i wanna share here... Select from a variety of cable grades to meet your specific application needs..... Standard lengths 3' (1 m), 4' (1.2 m), 6' (1.8 m). When ordering, replace the x in the part number with the desired cable length in feet... Custom cable lengths are available; please specify when ordering... Part numbering prefix indicates connector style for both ends of the cable.... All cables are 50 ohms impedance unless otherwise specified.... Contact us for special or customized cables.... Thanks

I have spliced transducer cables and it has worked fine, not sure why yours won't. Even if you buy a new cable it will still have to be spliced onto the ducer so you won't gain anything. Our Signet is removable from inside the boat, we have a dummy plug to use while you have it out.

Hi there,
I've had success replacing transducer cable with shielded microphone cable from a music shop (assuming your brand of depth finder uses the simple 3-strand pos/neg/ground cable) at only $1 per foot. I just wrapped tin foil and electrical tape around each cable's splice (solder the wires for best effect) and then again around the bundle of cables. The braided shielding in the mic cable acts as the ground wire, so you just have to twist it up.

Although, I wonder how applicable this is to your situation, since it sounds like you have plenty of wire. Was your splice itself shielded? Can you tell if there's any water damage or corrosion in the existing wire?
