I have a 160 sq foot main on a 27 foot sailboat (albin vega).

I am tending towards a simple and small profile 2:1 system for the traveler.
But will I regret not going to 3:1?

Any reasons for me to not use 2:1?

All kidding aside, I had a 2:1 purchase on my 27'er and went to 3:1. It was nice. If you have better purchase on the traveler you will play the traveler instead of the main sheet in gusty conditions, which is generally more efficient and easier. Less line to yard back in.

Another suggestion; try to make it a continuous loop, with the tails guided by bullet blocks and limited slack. This really cuts down on tangles.

I have a 4-1 traveler with my 30' Jeanneau, I had a 165# main, and then last summer got a new full roach one that is 195! Then again, I currently have a 4-1 with a 4-1 micro for the sheets, and may make it a 6-1 with 4-1 micro. So it is easier from my wife to haul in, along with really windy days, ie 20'ish knots, gets to be a hand full at even 4-1!

I wouldn't skimp on this.. it's an important control that needs to be easily used when you need it most. Adequate purchase goes a long way to making this to be true.

Also, while it will be tempting to go small on the gear and line, remember that skinny lines are hard in the hands so use a line you can easily grip (within reason, of course, but size the gear to the line so that you don't have extra drag)

You'll appreciate being able to easily make minor (but rewarding) tweaks !

My new traveler from Garhauer has, I think is 5:1.

Excellent craftsmanship, matter of fact, I don't know how they do it for the prices they charge.

I'd look again, probably 3-1. I have not seen a 5-1 traveler, not to say one does not exist, but 2, 3 or 4-1's do! Then again, there is always time for a first!

I have triple blocks top and bottom, but it's a bigger boat and my wife can sheet in with one hand. On my 33', I have double blocks top and bottom: same result.

I would imagine on a sail the size of you T37, a 5-1 would be nice. I find 4-1 on mine to be more than plenty! And would assume that 4-1 for the OP would be more than ample to, with 3-1 reasonable, 2-1 would be "why bother!"

At least since his main and mine are similar in size, that would be my take on this situation!

Also it is nice to know we can learn things upon occasion too, so I must not be that old of a dog/person eh!?!?!?!

Why im bothering is because right now my traveler is my leg!

I loosten the thumb screws, put my foot on the base of the mainsheet block and push it to where I want and tighten the screws again. Fun. lol.

You'll find that whatever purchase you choose will not work very well with your existing track.. there's simply too much friction (you already have seen how difficult it can be to move with your "foot"....

An effective traveler should have a smooth running ball bearing track and car as well as the proper tackle to move it.. so you're looking at more than the cost of a few blocks and 25 feet of line.

So check out the full line of gear from Harken, Gerhaur and others to see what's usually done.
