Who needs a motor when you can paddle?
Great fun, thanks.

That trackhoe paddling the barge was genius of epic proportion.
I watched a cable crane on a barge that had been driving pilings on one side of the river near me, cross to the other side.

They got tired of waiting for a tug to push them across, so they set out kedging themselves across. They would sling an anchor attached to the cable as far as possible and reel it in. Very slow getting across the deep channel, but once in shallow water they made good progress.

Seeing the excavator paddling reminded me of this.
