I had been planning on buying the Ray Marine E7d radar unit since last November. When I went in to West Marine to pick one up, the staff told me that just last week, a bug had been acknowledged that he touch screen had a serious problem that Ray Marie hadn't figured out how to fix yet. So if you own one, you might want to contact Ray Marine.
I know West Marine isn't selling any more until the units have been recalled and repaired, but I see there are plenty of on line vendors that are still selling them.
The next step up is 400.00 more which is unfortunate. because I want to get Ray Marine to interface with my other instruments.

The issue is with the E7D MFD touchscreen, and not the radar itself. The issue is that the screen can loose calibration, and does not accurately detect where you touch the screen.

I believe that there is an article about this in the latest Practical Sailor.

You can find more information here: http://www.raymarine.com/e7customercare/

The issue has been fixed, and Raymarine is replacing E7D units for existing owners. They shipped my replacement extremely promptly and it's been working well for me. The original unit did have trouble with touch screen calibration (though that barely mattered since there are hard buttons on the device too).

I returned mine this past fall and got a rebuild in a fairly short time....it may not be quite as speedy now that the sails are going up.

Meanwhile you can calibrate it yourself quite easily.
