Water Heater Tank Construction

1232 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  sailak
I'm planning to replace the water heater in Elnora this spring and I'm considering an aluminum tank heater due to the lower cost.

I also believe you "get what you pay for" so am a little leery of the aluminum tanks.

I've found three main tank materials….stainless, "glass lined steel" and aluminum.

Any preferences? horror stories? Favorite/or least favorite brands of water heaters?

It's my money and I want your help spending it.

Thanks.

Aluminum is the worst material for a water heater tank - or any water tank for that matter. Many use glass lined steel. The better ones are stainless.

Brands? Stay away from Kuuma,a cheaply built Seaward copy - aluminum tank. Seaward has aluminum tank as well but unlike Kuuma does accept an anode (magnesium) to ward off corrosion.

Raritan and Torrid are good tanks. Glass lined.

IsoTherm is probably the best commonly available water heater. Stainless tank.

You do really get what you pay for.
