I don't know if my knee is going to go along with waxing the hull this Spring. I would consider paying the yard to do it if the price wasn't going to be $800.

So I'm considering just using the wash-N-wax stuff. I don't expect this to be a great long lasting wax method, but I can redo it a couple of times a year pretty easy. I don't really care if it shines, just provide some gelcoat protection.

Anyone else using the wash-N-wax method? Does seem to be doing the job?

Use Cilajet paint sealant wax
Is the best wax I have work with in more than 10 years
I won't lie, is a pain to find the product and to remove it.
Is not cheap but it's aircraft quality wax product that last 5+ years
Good luck

doesn't sound like anything close to a wash-N-wax type of product

I approached several of my son's college friends and offered them several hundred bucks to wax my boat while it was on the hard... I brought all the wax materials and power buffers and showed them a quick how to apply and buff... they did a great job and when the boat was back in the water took all of them out the next weekend on a great day sailing...
They all had a great time as well as I. They did a very nice job (H28.5) so not a large boat. They also had time to help me clean the deck... YES... that was the best $300 plus pizza/drinks I spent that weekend... I also made some young budding sailors happy in the process. :)

What product would you use on deck and in the cockpit specifically on the walk on surfaces. Will the Polly products and other wax compounds make the surface too slick?
Don't wax your horizontals...asking for an unexpected swim;)

I use only Starbrite on the deck surfaces... once they are thoroughly cleaned of spots and stains I then use the Starbrite to keep it clean and add a layer of sun protection. On the hull I use Meguiars Marine wax products only... both paste and liquid.... I use only Meguiars products for my antique cars and any other items I need buffed and shined... great products.

The question/thread is about wax that you don't need to buff/rub. I'm facing a knee problem and I don't believe I can do the ladder up/down holding a buffer thing this year.

Which is why I pay others to do the waxing for me... Travelineasy has a good system he's found... Poly Glow

Duragloss Marine & RV Detail Spray #521 is another good product that is just a spray on wipe off but needs to have it done often to maintain the shine (about the same as the Poly Glow products).

You could just forget about waxing the hull and go sailing. Once you're aboard, you'll never know the difference.
I've done that in the past. The thing is that every time I go out or leave the boat out on its mooring I see it and it stresses me.

Cost me 20 bucks in Thailand, plus all the ice water the guy could drink.

+1 for Starbrite Non-skid Deck Cleaner. I follow that with an application of Woody Wax. Woody Wax is a specially developed for non-skid surfaces. Need to follow directions, but the results are excellent. Side benefit is that bird ***t, fish blood and other spills just hose right off. I apply at the beginning of the season and again around Labor Day. Good stuff.

Not to beat a dead horse but if you just want a wax then it is very, very, very hard to beat Collinite #885 Paste Wax. It contains less than 2% silicone where its competitors have 30% or more... The silicone looks great for a week or two when applied but does not last like the Carnuba does...

You don't need to take my word for it because Practical Sailor has not once, but twice, named it the king of waxes... I have tried piles and piles of waxes and not found a single one that beats Collinite #885 in longevity, ease of application or shine......

I have not waxed my boat since I bought it in 1995. Instead I use Protectant 303 on the hull. It is a UV protectant and protects plastic, leather, fiberglass etc.. from UV degradation. After a wash with some diluted Simple Green I lay it on with a kitchen mop. Only takes about 15 min per side to apply to my 30 foot boat. Not as bright and shiny as a wax. But, even after a harsh snowy winter the water still beads up in the spring. One note about using it is you have to remove all the previous wax from the hull before applying it the first time.
