So we go out for a sail today, and before we can leave the marina we get this beep, beep ,beep. What's that? Oh it's the radio. By the time I figured that out, I missed the channel 16 broadcast. We sail on. About an hour later there it goes again, so quick down the hatchway, punch up channel 16 and get "if this had been an actual tornado alert it would be followed..." Back to channel 12 as we are in fog and want to hear ship to ship. Then at 11:00 beep, beep, beep. Now I've got this one figured out, it's the daily "this is what a weather alert sounds like, if there is an"... Makes me want to turn the damned thing off, after all there was only a Coast Guard work boat fixing a navaid and a kayaker out besides CCRider.
Now I'm not one of those tea sippers that want to destroy all of the good things government has done for us, but if this keeps up well be in rocking chairs eating Pablum.

Or spending more than our boats cost, for the safety equipment and certifications to sail offshore.

We go sailing to get away from radio, TV, cable, phone... They can be useful, but we try to use them, rather than letting them use us. We have friends who delayed their departure on a cruise because the clothes-washing machine on their ketch had a problem with a pump. When the tail starts to wag the dog, you're feeding the wrong end.
