I have a 1980 oday 30 with fin keel and have been wondering for some time about the circular metal plate with female NPT thread that's mounted / embedded into the keel. It's on one side a few inches below where the keel meets the hull. It's about 2" in diameter, and the threading about 1/2 inch. Could it be part of a bonding system? If so, just screw in a pencil zinc?

Sorry I didn't attach a picture, but I'm hoping someone can help me put this long-standing mystery to rest!

Thanks,
Patrick

The bilge is like a box the hole would not show since it's into the bilge above the keel core and below or next to the bilge box. I don't have that on my boat. Do you have a bolt on keel too? My 1982 was the only one that I know of with an encapsulated keel.

Great input, that's a very helpful explanation. I have always assumed that the keel is encapsulated, as there is no evidence of keel bolts in the "bilge box". It's a 1980 Oday 30. Correct me if I'm looking for the keel bolts in the wrong place though please....
