Hi, i am on the market for replacing my busted Autohelm ST6000 Autopilot Course computer and Autohelm ST7000 Control head that used to drive my (still functioning and working) Autohelm Type1 Direct Linear drive.
There are few wheel autopilot packages available at a reasonable price but I note that the displacement limit for Raymarine X5 is 16500 lbs while my boat is Freedom36 and displaces 14300 lbs originally. I read that you should have 20% reserve so with my boat displacement and 20% reserve I am over the figure of 16500 lbs Raymarine recommends? What are others saying?
1.) Go for Raymarine X5 wheel autopilot package which I can get for $1250 new
2.) Buy new course computer and control head, close to $2000 to drive existing linear direct drive which is functioning but is used nevertheless.

You kind of answered your own question. The C36 group has mentioned many times that wheel pilots are just at the end range of their boat displacement, same as yours.
