There are a couple of places for C30 owners

I think a lot of us visit multiple places online. I've been to the C30 International site, and I'm a regular reader at Sailnet, the Yahoo group and CatalinaOwners.com. I see a lot of the same people in all three places and I've learned a lot in all three places.

It doesn't make sense to me that there's no C30 forum here on sailnet regardless of past politics.

I would also like to see a C30 forum on sailnet. I feel left out :(
There's a C-30 forum at the link below but most folks just use the Ask All Sailors Forum instead.

Catalina 30 - SailboatOwners.com

The C-30 group uses the rather problematic (lots of issues lately) and antiquated Yahoo Groups list serve as its forum. If you don't mind 30+ emails per day and no ability to embed pics in a post then it's an okay format.

I'd personally love to see the C-30 group get its own vBulletin type forum and step into the modern age..

I have to step in here to correct several mis-statements made by readers of this forum concerning the C30.

The IC30A is alive and well and has its own website - International Catalina 30 Association . It is filled with current info on C30 (and C309) specifications, class rules, events, ships store, for sale, owner mods, fixes, questions and answers.

The Yahoo email list (catalina30) is NOT problematic and DOES allow posting of pictures with emails. It has extensive photo albums and documents.

Unlike Sailnet and other previous servers YAHOO has been a stable home for C30 members for several years now. There are over 1,000 listers enjoying the banter over c30 issues. Our members enjoy the free flow of email messages compared to the logon requirements and strict structure of the antiquated forum approach.

If you have a C30 question, why ask a general forum or a server with only a few owners?
Please come and join the experts at yahoo and support the IC30A by joining and receiving our 100 page member magazine. (and a 400 page tech manual.) No other source can offer you these benefits.

Hello Max Munger - Treasurer and Webmaster!

The IC30A is a definitely a great source of info. You guys are doing a great job. However, it is a static website. That might make the site and association appear dead. Especially today when people cling to their user interaction with websites.

For example, yesterday I submitted my boat and info to go into the owner's listing on the IC30A website. Today it is not listed there yet. Now that is no big crisis. But..people have grown accustomed to being able slap things up on the net immediately (It's all Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter's fault...haha).

Have there been any thoughts over at the IC30A about turning your website into a big bad ass site with a forum???

The Yahoo email list (catalina30) is NOT problematic and DOES allow posting of pictures with emails.
Max I am on that list and there have been many issues lately, MANY. Emails showing up days and sometimes up to a week later out of the blue. Emails not making it to many members, and not all embedded pics can be seen by all email accounts. I see about 10% of the pics people embed and I am using a yahoo.com email account.

I often use photos to go along with written descriptions and it does not always work on the C-30 list serve so just I don't bother. With over 70,000 marine based images your list users might actually appreciate some of my photos but I no longer bother. Perhaps I am just stoopid;) and can't figure it out or perhaps you can explain for me how to make this work so any and ALL recipients, regardless of their email system, will be guaranteed to see the photos when they open the email?

There have been many threads where in the middle of it the Yahoo software decides it is spam so replies wind up in some mystical spam universe but not in my spam folder??????

Where do these emails go for days, or sometimes even weeks? Is there some email bar & grill they hang out at, get drunk, and forget where they are going only to sober up a few days later and continue on their merry way to the recipient?;) You do remember the "Another Electrical Question" thread..?

List serves are considered dinosaurs by most owners associations these days from auto interests to hunting & fishing to sailing. I think you guys may loose out on a lot of good responses because of it. I know I limit my posting over there due to the "NOT problematic" nature. I get very frustrated spending my time to write a well document response only to have it show up a week later, or not at all. I have never had a post on the sailing forums not make it when I hit post, and I know it will be available to anyone who wants to look at it. With Yahoo many posts wind up in the members spam folder, this does not happen with a forum.

Here's one C-30 vote for a forum type format.

For those who like visuals to help understand the "NOT problematic" nature of the list serve see below.

I've included some banter from an email string on the supposedly "NOT problematic" Yahoo list serve.:D Names & emails removed for privacy.

P.S. The title of this thread was originally "Another Electrical Question" which was changed to "Combiner Confusion / Another Electrical Question" in an attempt to circumvent the supposedly non-existent "issues" of why many folks were no longer getting responses to the thread "Another Electrical Question"..:)

Sorry if you get this twice, maybe three times, the list is BUGGY today and the original never showed up and is apparently lost in space and neither did the second one. I gave this one a new title.

BTW between 5/24 and 6/5 I had a total of 8 members of the Re: (Catalina 30) group wind up in my YAHOO.COM spam folder. This is TOTALLY unacceptable for someone using a YAHOO.COM email address and a YAHOO GROUP list serve. Rather sad state of technology that can't even recognize it's own GROUPS, within the same corporate umbrella, and let the emails go through.

But yeah "NOT problematic"...:D:D

P.S.S. Despite all the frustrations with the C-30 list serve format it IS THE spot for C-30 owners to hang. It's a great group of individuals with excellent input, and despite the deficiencies in format, it is VERY WORTHWHILE to join if you want good C-30 info...

Despite the existence of a well used and well liked C30 forum on Yahoo, some of us prefer the more modern and user friendly format such as used here on Sailnet.

So, the question remains...what would it take to create a C30 forum on Sailnet?

Are you a member of the yahoo email list? If so, maybe send out an email to all members asking them to come to this thread and give the idea a thumbs up. Hopefully the Admins will notice and add a C30 forum for us?? :)

Alright Jeff!

Thanks a ton! I put up a quick post in there to get things rolling.

Can't make it to Bohemia this weekend...but you definitely have some pizza and Becks Dark coming once my boat gets in the water. :)
