I've noticed a whining noise coming from my engine when in forward gear - this might have started after I accidentally switched neutral -> forward without throttling down first (ARGH), but I can't remember if it was there before that or not. Noise is not there in neutral or reverse.

Engine is a 2QM20 with a KBW10 gearbox.

Should I be worried about this? Searching on the internet is inconclusive

When was the last time you checked/changed the transmission fluid?

About two weeks ago

I'll check all the cables, apparently not being 100% in gear can cause that noise

I changed the transmission oil a couple of weeks ago but DIDN'T use the drain plug - I didn't know there was one! I'll try changing it again tonight, using the drain plug. I'll check shifting alignment as well while I'm there.

My engine alignment was correct 6 months ago
