It's great to know where things are in an emergency. Before I owned a boat I took tools and my own nav gear and paper charts on a charter. That was back in the days of Loran C.

Before entering a narrow ship canal the atomic four would not start. The ignition switch did not work. I went below, grabbed a screwdriver and bypassed the switch at the solenoid. The engine started to my relief and we motored into a marina. I removed the switch and cleaned corroded terminals on the switch and starter. The switch worked the rest of the week. I also cleaned the battery terminals.

I don't recall if there were other tools on the boat.
