I have a newer 5 hp 4 stroke Nissan and would like to know if this will work on my Catlina 25? I have a 9.9 Evenrude that need work off of it. I have never had this boat out. But would like to next week. Thank you for any help.

I had a C25 with a 7 1/2 hp and it was ample. I believe 5 hp will likewise be enough normally, but you might need a little more if you sail in heavy weather. The question is, how long is the shaft. A short shaft measures 15" from the top of the mounting clamp to the bottom of the cavitation plate. A long shaft measures 20", and an extra long shaft measures 25". A C25 needs at least a long shaft.

The Catalina 25 has a very active, helpful association. You can find it at this hyperlink. Association Forum

Really depends on how you plan to use it. Moving boat back and forth in calm, flat conditions? No problem! Trying to buck serious wind and current to get through a dangerous inlet? Problem!

Like so many things in life, it is a matter of understanding the limitations and accounting for them.

When I first launched my C25 three years ago, the 9.9 wasn't ready yet and I moved it about 4 miles with my son's 5hp Merc 2stroke.

I did it during slack tide and was glad I did. 'Nimble' and 'responsive' were not words that came to mind.

I used it one more time to move the boat a few hundred yards to install the 9.9.

I would do it again if I had to move a boat for service, but I wouldn't call it a good plan for normal operation.
