When I first encountered it, I really got to thinking about Columbus and Vikings and historical exploration/trade routes. A lot of early world sailing and exploration started to make a lot more sense. There is a currents version as well:Yep, you can really understand wind patterns by looking at this thing.
The Windy app has all that info and more. Check it out if you have a smartphone...I use it all the time for the current, but they only update that weekly. If anyone has found a site that gives detailed current info for the area from Antigua to Trinidad, please pass it on. Wind is everywhere but this is the only source for current I've been able to find.
Yes, you can set it for swell also. I haven't personally used it on the open ocean yet but I found out about it from a fellow cruiser who has and liked it although they said that they have other sources for weather too that they use at sea.I have been watching/using that ,Windy, app ..pretty accurate even inland for wind ,rain/snow,temp,waves(not much here right now) ,and a forecast for for over a week that seems more accurate than the weather network,,I like it cause can see what and how systems are developing, ,,,,have no idea how accurate it is for open ocean but have learnt a lot just watching it every day or so ,,,,,,looked at Trinidad area and north seems to give current and waves there too....I think you can set it for swell too....Ralph
