I recently purchased a 1995 9.9 4 stroke Yamaha outboard that had been set up for a while. The man said it was hard to start and probably just needed a carb adjustment. A friend of mine works on motors on the side and can get it to start but it is extremely hard. once it starts it runs great but has no kill switch and we cant even find a place where we think one was removed or anything and we cant seem to find a owners manual or service manual, any suggestions?

I had a 2001 Yamaha.

The Kill switch was held open by a red plastic "C" clip that a lanyard should be attached to it. It works by grounding out the Ignition primary circuit. Located on the control lever near the start button (with electric start).

But if that"s the problem it won't run at all.
