OK so I just need to confirm this for I have owned several boats but all power and nothing ever under about a 30hp. Are these 3hp outboards air cooled with no intake for water like the bigger engines? My last boat I just sold last year had two 135's on it and of course water cooled. I wanted to run the outboard to make sure it works before driving 2 hours to my slip and finding out otherwise so....I went looking for the apparatus that one can hook up a hose to and place over the cooling intakes but I don't even see any intakes on this outboard. Googling it tad seems to tell me it's air cooled with the lower unit totally sealed and I assume just cooled by the water surrounding the exterior of the lower unit...is this correct?

If this is correct, then I should just be able to crank it up on my driveway right (just for less than lets say 30 seconds to make sure it starts and runs)?

Oh and it looks like it only has forward and neutral so to reverse, you swing the motor all the way around???? I'll have to make sure I do this before I have a few Kama Kazi's! AND TO WATCH OUT FOR THE RUDDER WHEN DOING SO.

My 2HP Yamaha is water-cooled. It's a 2-cycle vintage 2000. I suspect the 3 is also.

I test run mine each spring in the driveway using a garbage can filled with water.

Yup, after some more researching it's water cooled and I think I know where the spitters are so I'll run it in a garbage can.
