I took my Alberg 29 for a spin on August 22 and everything worked well. Today (Aug 24th), I tried to take the Alberg off the dock and the transmission would not work; i.e. I could not convince the transmission to go into gear, either forward or reverse. The linkage moves and the lever on the side of the transmission moves, but nothing engages. Any advice, comments?

I have the same engine and transmission as you. I replaced the transmission this past march. My symptoms were different. The transmission was slipping and slowly getting worse.

I'd disconnect the shift cable and operate it by had at the transmission to verify. You should feel definite engagement and disengagement as you operate it at the lever. With any luck the actuator is slipping on the shaft and not actually moving the transmission into or out of gear. If so just tighten it up.

Next I'd change the transmission fluid. These transmissions require ATF. most folks use regular motor oil in them so you might want to do 2 or 3 drain-fill-run sequences to flush it.

If all else fails a replacement is in your future. Any idiot can do it, I proved that:

I opted for used. i understand that twin disc makes a bolt on replacement.
