Hi All,

I have a Yanmar 3JH3E engine that I need an alternator belt for. Of course the boat is 5 hours away and I don't have belt with me(silly me). Does anyone know what size a Yanmar part 25152-004400 belt is? I would like to just stop by my local auto parts store and pick one up on way to boat, rather than going to boat and pulling belt first.

Thanks
michael

After several calls I found a Yanmar parts guy who kindly informed me the Yanmar 004400 belt was a close match to an A44 belt. Not exact, but the A44 would work, with initial increased wear. So I guess the end result is if you read the middle 2 numbers off a Yanmar belt and have a close but not perfect approximation using an A belt. When I get to the boat I will see how it fits and report back if it is a poor fit. Guess the smart move would be to just buy a Yanmar belt, but in this case, not convenient.

He also passed along that Yanmar was incredibly secretive about their parts, even the generic type, filters, belts. Said it was even worse with drawings.

For this exact reason I bought Yanmar OEM belt when it came time to replace. It was somewhat more expensive than automotive belts, but it also appeared to be slightly differently built (with ridges rather than a solid surface). That said, for years before my boat used an automotive belt and was very happy with it (with an engine similar to yours).
