I'm sure this has been covered before some where but I have been researching all day and can't find any reference to it...so I have found myself here hoping that someone has done this or has some insight.

Here is the thing 1984 S2 7.3 meter powered by the OMC zephyr 15 hp 2 stroke..and yup you got it..mechanical issues...what exactly I'm not yet sure but since it has been said that this unit has the same power head as an evenrude 35... So is it possible to marry the top end of a four stroke to the bottom end of this sail drive unit?? Does it match up?? Is there a conversion part that would make this possible??

I'm searching for a resolution besides the obvious of strapping an outboard on the back or replacing the entire unit with a pricey new sail drive

I would guess a dealer could answer your question, not likely many have done/tried this. Good luck.

I found an old post on a forum from the previous owner and got my hands on an old survey..turns out it is a 78 zephyr 15 s13a saildrive..not that this will make a lot of difference just thought I would add this bit of info.

I would imagine there's been some changes since the 70s 2 stroke came out and the newer 4 stroke versions will be quite different. However it may be worth investigating IF your issues are powerhead related and not in the typical corrosion/leakage of the leg itself.

With access to a machinist, it's possible some kind of adaptor could be made to work.

The OMC saildrives used the same block as the Johnson/evenrude 25/35 hp outboards of the same model year, which were also 2-stroke. A
newer 4 stroke won't be anything the same. What kind of issue are you having?

Well not having any knowledge about previous owners issues with the engine it is hard to say what the issues were but currently...it is frozen...plugs were removed for a compression check I presume and not put back into place causing condensation and rust...so now it is frozen. Any one hear of any parts or even another zephyr for sale anywhere?

I know I'm responding to an ancient post, but I felt like responding to benefit someone, maybe sknrzgirl.
Depending on the degree of stuck rings and piston(s), a soak in PB Blaster, a tap on the flywheel if it is accessible, and repeat might free it up. If it does free up you might have a ring damaged and maybe not.

I've freed stuck pistons for years on vintage International Harvester tractors using this method. One I did have to pull the head and persuade the pistons.
