I would imagine there's been some changes since the 70s 2 stroke came out and the newer 4 stroke versions will be quite different. However it may be worth investigating IF your issues are powerhead related and not in the typical corrosion/leakage of the leg itself.

With access to a machinist, it's possible some kind of adaptor could be made to work.
