A4 first start success...but water leaking from bronze pieces

I just finished my A4 rebuild and finally got it started this past weekend. I noticed that after the motor came to temp, that water began to seep out of the round bronze pieces on the top of the head and front of the block...any idea why this is happening? Is it detrimental? How do I stop it?

Thanks guys,

Chris

If you've rebuilt the engine you must be familiar with Moyer Marine.. I'd give them a call.

Are those frost plugs???

yes the plug will have to be removed, you can drill a hole in the center and pop it out with a screwdriver

and then clean up the hole as best as possible and hopefully a new plug will seal without needing to resort to goop

Black pepper...that's interesting...how will this help stop the leaking plugs? Will it fill in the small voids? Is there any risk of damaging the motor?

I am trying to avoid having to drill and replace the plugs if possible...just means even MORE delay in hitting the water this season.

Thanks for all the input!

Chris were the freeze plugs removed for the rebuild? If it's leaking imho it's already rusty and needs replacement seems to me most freeze plugs are put in reverse to what yours is showing.
Tommays is there an expansion type plug that he could get?

It is just a curved disk not like the cups with more sealing area on the sides like newer stuff

You clean things up and see how it looks and the new one could be thumped flat with a socket and plastic hammer

If there is obvious corrosion and it will not seal then it would become goop time like blue RTV
