Hello, I was surfing the classifieds today when an add for a 14ft double keel sailboat popped up. I have been looking for an affordable, compact sailboat for a while now and was wondering if anyone knew what it was. The seller says it was impoted from the UK, Thanks.

Twin keel, also called bilge keelers are quite common in the UK, in particular in areas with large tidal ranges. The idea is that the boat can sit on the ground in harbours that dry at low tide. Interestingly, some French builders are making quite high performance boats this way, such as the RM 1070.

I am not sure 1.5 hp will push anything well. It might push the boat in perfect conditions but may struggle against a current, choppy sea or against a headwind. I don't know that I would get a twin keel boat unless I lived in a place like NE Canada or England where there is a huge tidal change and drying harbors. I was under the impression double keel boats suffer in performance, obviously not in the case of the boat Killarney-Sailor posted but in most twin keelers not performance oriented. On the other hand two short stubby keels might make trailer launching easier.
