Hello there, semi-long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm 33 and have always wanted to get into sailing since I was a child, but have never really had a chance to do so.

I'm finally going to take a plunge and I've been looking at (online) some spacious 25ish foot boats, and am liking what I am seeing.

Since I've never sailed, and am frankly at this point just desperate/itching to sail something and to start learning the craft, I looked at an American Fiberglass A16 today just out of pure happenstance.

I came to someone's house to look at a Coronado 22' and realized quickly it was way too much of a project, and too much of an asking price, for what I was looking for in a first boat. They told me about their neighbor who had a small boat and they have never used it.

I talked to the guy and he said he's owned it for 7 years and has never sailed it once. It's a very rough/dirty/moldy American Fiberglass A16. I've done some looking online and found a few similar clean boats of this type go for around $900-$1500, but this thing was rough. The guy wanted $900 which I know is way too much.

Should I just run away from this? I've never sailed a boat in my life, never even been in a sail boat, and I really want to get started on this new hobby.

The guy said he has the sail for it, but it has a small "pin" size hole in it.

Thanks guys for your replies. I think I'll offer him a lower amount than what he's asking and clean this up. This will give me a good vessel to learn on and not worry about hurting the boat or myself.
