I agree with Jack Horner and his company.
I used him for my survey and they did a great job.
His man was there from 9:30 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. without a lunch break and covered everything.
I eventually purchased the boat and am glad I used them.
They were professional, knowledgeable and above all very honest at the end when we did our sit down.
I highly recommed them.
Don''t know what others charge but what I paid was well worth it.

Very thorough, very informative, took his time and knew what he was doing. Was well balanced in his presentation of issues.

Actually saved me the cost of the survey.

A year later, I have not found a single thing he might have missed. Very pleased.

 

I''ve used Jerry Trippitelli of Harbor Marine Surveys 3 times and was very pleased every time. He is thorough, taking as long as necessary to carefully inspect any boat from stem to stern.

Hartoft Marine did a survey for me about 6 months ago - very thorough and detailed.

They are all pretty good - some were a bit better than others, but that's all relative.

 

Just had Peter Hartoft do an insurance survey on a boat I'm about to take to the BVI's. Good guy, and an honest survey.

 

+1 for David Manning. Had a good survey experience with him.

Of course, this thread is from like 2002, so I doubt the OP is still looking.

 

Now it's 4 more years later....any current recommendations on whether who might still be the best and still surveying.
Unfortunately, I found out that Jack Hornor passed away last Oct, very sad. I spoke with him over the summer and went to contact him again. His business phone number is disconnected so I assume that any associates have moved on.
