Cutlass Bearing Replacement, 1985 Najad 343

My boatyard told me that the cutlass bearing on my 1985 Najad 343 really needs
replacement. But neither they nor I can figure out how best to access, remove, and replace the bearing. There is a bronze fitting on the external end of the tube through which the prop shaft exits, but it is not at all obvious how that fitting can be romved or opened. Or is there some other way to replace the bearing?

Also, how can I identify the manufacturer and part number for the bearing? Are there any other pieces that should be replaced at the same time as a cutleass bearing?

go to the najad website and you will find a list of employees there includiong maintenance specialists. I have found they are very responsive and will help you out.
You can also post your question directly to other najad owners.

the website is www.najad.se

At the aft end of the shaft log, you should see the end of a bronze sleeve, with a synthetic, ribbed liner, and on one side, probably, a set screw radial to the sleeve. Loosen the set screw and saw the sleeve from the inside out an inch or so on either side, then pry that piece out. One more cut in the remaining piece will allow you to get the remainder out. Very tedious work. See if you can attack it with a sprocket puller/aka bearing puller. I''ve never been lucky enough to be able to work that.
