Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay

Having cruised most of Lake Ontario in the last two seasons, I made the decision to relocate to Georgian Bay. I am planning to make the trip from St Catharines to Penetanguishene sometime in May, weather permitting. I will be alone for most of the trip, with the obvious exception of Welland canal. I will not be on schedule and hope to sail as much as possible.
Looking for advice, tips and suggestions. Especially interested in good anchorages, convenient places to provision, inexpensive marinas, basically any local knowledge is welcome.

Thats a long slog up the 240 miles of Lake Erie against prevailing winds and a slow ride up the St. Clair and Detroit rivers against the current.

Comments and tips will be reserved until I know what kind of boat.

Thanks for reviving my old post :smile I made the trip last year as planned. Actually sailed most of Erie in one shot on a 20-25 kt easterly...you just need to be patient and wait for one. St. Clair river was not my favorite part. Georgian Bay is phenomenal.

I would love to do Trent-Severn one day but I think my boat is too big for that.
