Mooring Costs in Boston area

Hi -I'm thinking of joining a yacht club in Boston Harbor (Winthrop) and am learning about the fees associated with placing a mooring (Winthrop has a town fee of $225 it appears) but don't know how much a mooring installation costs. Anyone know? And know who to call to put one in? I've heard the name Houghton a few times but would like to get a ballpark estimate on the actual cost of installing the mooring.
thanks

Figure about $1500

If you buy mooring tackle and have it dropped/installed in the harbor. You can't do it yourself, you need to go through an approved mooring service for your harbor (at least in Marblehead waters you do). I think my tackle was $1100 about 6 years ago for a 13000 lb displacement boat.

Be aware that you need to replace parts of your mooring tackle each year. Top chain every 2-3 years, bottom chain 5 to 10 years, float 5 years or so, etc. Life depends on location and water conditions. You also need to have your mooring serviced each year at roughly $150 to 300 year, by an approved service.

We have a mooring at Winthrop. You need to contact Houghton's Marine Services (?). The number is 617-5843-568 (cell) or781-631-9338. Be advised that the harbormaster may want extra for dingy tie up. We do love Winthrop. It is a quiet little basin--well-except for the jets landing at Logan. We like to watch them though, so we don't find it annoying.

Very old thread, but comes to life just as I’ve recieved my Summer 2025 slip invoice. $17k, with electrical. It’s getting crazy. I’ve been waiting for the next cycle, where these back off or at least stabilize, like,the6 did around 2010ish, but it doesn’t seem to be coming.

Question…. How much is dockage/mooring in New England?

Answer…. However much you have.

WOW - Minne - you have a bigger boat than mine, and you are in a slip... But $17K!

FYI - I pay ~$2700 per summer season (and about the same for winter) for my 35 foot boat on a mooring in Greenwich Bay.

Gets worse. We spend winters down south, but if I don’t pay for winter storage in RI, I go to the bottom of the priority list for a slip the next season. They almost all have waiting lists, for larger slips. They don’t care that I’ve been a tenant for well over a decade. Therefore, I pay for in water winter storage, or essentially lease my slip year round. It relieves ant pressure to vacate my slip by Oct 31 and I could return prior to May 1, but I don’t recall ever doing either. Certainly not for more than a day or two. Plus I pay down south. Getting out of hand.
