K-boat sails

Hi Dobrosailor- I may be of some help, as I have 2 sets of sheets for k-boats. I do not know a lot about the sails, and I am only a casual sailor. I am well versed on the k-boat and its history. I have hull #112 in very rough condition, and no mast in servicable condition. I would like to put this boat back into service, but I am not able. Alternately,if you are interested in selling your hull, I may be interested. Please let me know. T.C.

 

More info on Wright built K boats

I learned to sail on K 111 in the late 40's through the mid 60's. Several years ago I bought a bought one labeled 110. I bought it sight unseen because of the closeness to 111. I am currently trying to confirm the correct hull number. I do not believe that it is K 110 based on the cockpit configuration.
I have 3 main sails. one numbered 133, one 214 and one 284. 284 would not even make a good shower curtain.
I just purchased K 428, a fiberglass hull.
There is at least one wood K boat currently sailing on Seneca Lake.I am interested in selling the wood hull K boat. It is complete.

K110???

Charlie, are you on Seneca? There seems to be a lot of interest in the k-boats on Keuka, as there are several still in use, and one of the camps still uses a few. There is one very near me on the water. I also met Murray Wright's grandson on Keuka. I would be curious to take a look at your hull to see if I can glean any more insight into mine. Can you date the manufacture of K-111 that you learned on? Mine would be of virtually the same vintage. Thanks for your post!

Mine is 123 and it has an unusual cockpit completely oval. I am wondering if there were a few made differently or if it was a retrofit. The deck is also cedar which I was told some of them were made for light weight. WHo knows... As for year, the local wooden boat guys pegged #123 at ~1941

The oval cockpit was the original design. I looked at K 108 last week and it is rounded in the aft section.

Hi Charlie, Scott Dasson here. I lost track of you on the wooden boat forum, glad to see you are still posting. I have hull 97 that is seaworthy now and I was given 87 over the summer, 87 need lots of work..................maybe to much. I have yet to fully evaluate her. The cockpit on 87 is curved at the fore of the cockpit and square at the stern. 97 is also squared at the stern and at some point the cockpit was modified and the fore section is square Happy New Year to all you K boat nuts. If any one wants to talk K boats feel free to call me 585-429-7161 I am new here I can't post pics yet

 

All: I have k-251, and would love to sail her w/ others someday! I sail her on the SW side of Honeoye Lake...bought her from Cory in '79. Anyone have thoughts on a production year for #251?

I just found this site in my quest to get some info on K boats. My dad knew Murray, we used to own and sail K-10, which we bought when I was a boy. We had a cottage on Keuka Lake and used to compete in the races that Mr. Wright used to hold at his farm, on the east side of Keuka. Neighbors of ours, one cottage away also had a K boat, I think it was K-6. A note to a comment about the cockpit shape: The aft end of the cockpit was square, (and uncomfortable to lean against on a long, downhill run home in the afternoon; a boat cushion helped). I have some pictures of our boat. I'll see how they scan, if anyone would like to see them.

Ah K boat

I remember the K boat very well. In fact I help build many of them when Murray Wright sold them to Wright boat Company In Canandaigua NY. Owed By Shepard Marine Inc on the city pier.. We made them in fiberglass though, Lol I still have a pair of coverals that got covered in Orange Jel coat when we were unloading 55 gal drums of it. Great Boat I sailed many of them, To bad the molds got burned up in a fire. I love to have one. Hard to find any parts for them now a days. Yep sure do miss those days, Shepard sold that buisness along time ago I worked for them for over 20 years great people. I believe the YMCA camp on canandaigua Lake still has 2 or 3 of them still. I have a lot of memeories of that boat.

I might have original hardware for K-boat. Flag/W cast in. Do you know where to find info. to I.D. them? Picture's, book's, ......... I also may have a pair of original sail's for K-boat. K-Boat Update I hope to be selling K-boat Parts and Boats in the middle of 2014 if anyone is intrested. Going threw the paper work with lawyers at this time so K-Boats Will be resurrected soon. I wish I still live in NY but boats(fiberglass model) and parts will be made in Oklahoma

Hi Sam, Great! The K-boat lives again! Any further update? It's 2014 now, are you in business?
It's great to have it done by someone who made them back in the 70s. Will you use the same exact details or tweak them? I'm thinking of details like access to the centerboard drum for if (when) the cable gets derailed.
